Using mediums such as Photography, video, installation and sound; my practice seeks to explore the internet and the online as a constant expanding canvas. I use Mediums that use computers, phones and cameras at the forefront as I believe its symbiotic relationship with the artist reflects that of the internet and those using it. The Machine and I work together to create: and although I am in the driver's seat, I recognise that some of the choices on aesthetics/movements the machine has made. The machine I use also sets the boundaries of what I make automatically, as whatever its limits are; those are mine too. When it comes to the medium of installation however, I hope to use it to help video, sound and photography come into physicality. Using all senses to create a world and absorb the viewer into it.

For example, in the work ‘Silly, smelly Mattress man, 2020’ I use smell and touch to create a clinical dark surrounding. In the work LOL I think that’s my aura?!?1?’ I used 10 pieces of butter muslin to recreate a physical filtering and layering system on which one of my videos would be projected. Each of these elements brings to life an “electronic aura”, one which I hope to find and define within all my pieces.

‘LOL I think that’s my aura?!?1?’ (2020) is also an example of a technique that I use within almost all of my work in some way. Inspired by ‘Ways of seeing’ by John Berger and an essay written by Hito Steyrel named ‘in defence of the poor image’ I started using screens and photography as a means of layering my images. Any of the images I create or post are always images or videos of my original pieces. With this I started developing a technique in layering which consisted of continuously taking a photograph of a photograph on my laptop screen with my phone camera and then sending that image to my computer as to repeat this process. ‘LOL I think that’s my aura?!?1?’ (2020) consists of a video in which this method has been used 52 times.

All my work aims to achieve an open dialogue with its viewers. Although I put forth a question with in my work, it is I feel, merely a catalyst towards a conversation about the internets relevance and importance in our reality. Themes such as Language, Image, Communication, Religion, Capital, Interaction and even the value of Self love are all open to conversation within my practice. The idea is to start with a theme rooted in our daily “reality” and see how this is transcribed online; I then take this and reverse it again to see how this new platform then changes these rooted themes within our reality.

Recently, with a new reality becoming the normality; it is now my job to question my place again. Communication being at the forefront of this new wave of questions. For example how we now represent ourselves visually on Zoom calls, google meet hangouts and Skype. In pieces such as ‘A litre of Onken yogurt.com/Not a single girl chewing gum.’ (2020) where I purposefully gave my participants vague instructions to create stages in which I would photograph/video them.

I realised whilst doing this, that because I merely gave parameters the actual aesthetic outcome of the stages/photographs (almost) solely relies on the participants. I started questioning an artists authorship once a piece is done solely online and how this affects our visual experience when viewing art.

With this in mind I re-designed my website to purely have pages dedicated to being extensions of each of my works and not showing full images of the works as I believe whatever is uploaded creates its own meaning.

Please feel free to Explore all of these extensions here!!
